Nature of the Beast
Reach the werewolf lair and decide how the Dalish curse ends.
Nature of the Beast is built around looping forest maps and a dispute where both sides hide part of the truth. The practical navigation goal is to acquire a way through the forest barrier, then descend through the ruins to the werewolves.
Route at a glance
Speak with Zathrian
At the Dalish camp, learn that the werewolves are led by Witherfang and that Zathrian wants the curse ended by killing their leader. Pick up camp side quests before entering the forest.
Explore West Brecilian Forest
Move through the western map and note landmarks because exits can loop. Fight werewolves and sylvans carefully; several apparent dead ends become relevant after you resolve the Grand Oak/Hermit problem.
Meet the Grand Oak
Find the talking Grand Oak. It wants its stolen acorn back and can reward you with an item that helps pass the magical barrier.
Deal with the Mad Hermit
Locate the hermit who has the acorn. You can trade, manipulate the conversation or kill him. Returning the acorn to the Grand Oak is the straightforward route to the barrier solution.
Pass into East Brecilian Forest
Use the item/solution you obtained to get through the fog barrier. Continue exploring and follow the werewolf trail toward the ruins.
Enter the Elven Ruins
Descend through the ruins, fighting spiders, undead and other enemies. Search side rooms before each deeper transition; the ruins contain valuable loot and lore.
Reach the werewolf lair
Continue into the lower ruins and lair. When the werewolves stop attacking long enough to talk, hear the Lady of the Forest’s version of the curse before choosing sides.
Confront Zathrian
The Lady explains the origin of the curse and asks for Zathrian. Bring the confrontation to its conclusion. You can push Zathrian to end the curse, side with him, or side with the werewolves depending on dialogue and combat choices.
Secure the treaty army
Your final decision determines which group fulfills the treaty. Return/finish dialogue after the confrontation so the Dalish/werewolf outcome is registered before leaving the area.
- If the forest seems to loop forever, focus on completing the Grand Oak/Hermit exchange; the barrier is story-gated, not a hidden exit you can brute-force.
